why computers are evil
i am in the middle of adding on another raid5 array (1000GB of disks) to this sever. nothing ever goes as planned. that is why computers are evil. i bought an asus k8n-e deluxe motherboard that has a silicon technologies raid/sata controller on it. the specs claimed that this 4-port sata controller can handle raid5. they lied. it can handle raid 0, 1, and 0+1. you need to be running windows and download a raid5 driver to have it control a raid5 array. so, asus sort of lied.
now i am loading it up with linux md soaftware raid. that was exactly not my plan. on top of that it is not going well. raid5 is super cpu hungry, so i now have to play around with default block size. i may just say screw it in the end and just do JBOD.
so, the problem with computers is that we buy these things with the full intention of enriching our lives. they are suppose to open doors and make us more productive. while that is true to a certain degree, they also add complications that we never thought we would ever encounter. i have spent the morning working on this, and its 70 degrees outside. screw it, i’m going outiside.
